ABOUT THE SPECIAL: Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown was a prime-time animated television special that aired on October 24, 1980. This special won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 1981. Snoopy falls in love with Fifi and follows her to the Circus. While Snoopy is at the Circus training to become Hugo the Great, Charlie Brown is sad at home missing him. Charlie Brown tells Linus that his parents gave him Snoopy the day after another child poured a bucket of sand over his head (an anecdote which also featured in the 1972 comic strip Snoopy Come Home). Once the owner of the Circus decides that two dogs need to be pink, a pink Snoopy and Fifi escape. Snoopy is heartbroken when Fifi decides to return back to the circus. Snoopy returns home and Charlie Brown doesn’t say a thing but fixes him supper but instead of dog food it is a big sandwich and a glass of milk. The special ends with Snoopy lying on top of his dog house with the large blinking neon “Hugo the Great” sign attached to his dog house.
