ABOUT THE IMAGE: This rare preliminary storyboard print was used during the production of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983). It depicts an early visualization of the action sequence on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge. The drawings' varied sizes indicate that these storyboards were more of an elaborate "thumbnail" pass to lay out ideas and action. As a result, they were also never cut from the page and mounted on backing sheets like other VFX Storyboards from the film.

This storyboard sequence was published in J.W Rinzler's Star Wars Storyboards - The Original Trilogy, an official compilation book published in 2014 that showcases hundreds of storyboards from the Lucasfilm archives alongside commentary from the artists.

The artist of these drawings, George Jenson, had a life-long career as a production illustrator, VFX director, and story artist. He received an Oscar nomination for "Best Visual Effects" on 2010: The Year We Make Contact, the sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
