ABOUT THE IMAGE: Yes drivers and putters alike, the universal past time can indeed be an excursion in pain, frustration and humiliation. Yet this is nothing on “par” with the slice work accomplished by Tom in the classic MGM short, “Tee for Two.” Let’s look in on a well executed tee-shot that nets cat an eagle until mouse pops the ball out of the hole. Fairway follies ensue as Tom shows he’s really nothing more than an eight-hole hack. Jerry, of course, knows as much. Nonetheless, when the cat-and-mouse-game couples with the ball-in-hole game, we expect to see severe ecological and bodily damage. Yes, Tom’s tees do create crater-sized holes, while severe physical impairment ranges from Jerry being used as a tee, to Tom losing teeth when a whacked ball flies straight back
through his gnarling choppers. Regardless though of this tough turf, Jerry’s endgame wins with a hole-in-one drive straight onto Tom’s head. Golf: the wise clubber who said it’s a game people love to hate was right. It’s also a game most cats must love to also hate, particularly Tom.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Sometimes called serigraph cels, the serigraphy process involves silk-screening each individual color to the cel. Every distinct shade is a separate screen and pass, flawlessly reproducing each color. This serigraph cel was carefully transferred by a talented artist to ink on paper. The serigraphers created separate screens, one for each individual color, from which the edition was printed onto acetate. By using this meticulous serigraph process, the hand-crafted quality of an original cel was achieved.
