ABOUT THE IMAGE: A study in contrast of about a million years, but with the same attention to their world, “A Mother’s Work” shows, if anything the difference between Wilma Flintstone and Jane Jetson keeps their home clean. Which works better, well, that’s up for debate. Hanna-Barbera artist Iwao Takamoto created the original drawing for “A Mother’s Work,” which was silkscreened onto acetate. Each cel was then hand-painted, while Dennis Durrell rendered the background, which was reproduced using the Giclée printing process. Each piece is hand-signed by Penny Singleton and Jean Vander Pyl who voiced Jane Jetson and Wilma Flintstone.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Limited edition serigraph cels are created by silk screening each individual color onto the acetate cel, one at a time. Each serigraph cel contains anywhere from 10 to 50 colors. This time-consuming process results in a beautiful piece of art which faithfully reproduces the beauty, detail, and magic of the original.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: (April 29, 1925 – January 8, 2007) Iwao Takamoto was an American animator, television producer, and film director. He began his career as a production and character designer for Walt Disney Animation Studios films such as Cinderella (1950), Lady and the Tramp (1955), and Sleeping Beauty (1959). Later, he moved to Hanna-Barbera Productions, where he designed a great majority of the characters, including Scooby-Doo and Astro, and eventually became a director and producer.
