ABOUT THE IMAGE: Poised as a before and after sequence, these two images come from Knighty Knight Bugs, the 1958 Academy Award-winning cartoon directed by Friz Freleng. This piece shows the progression of a gag, where in the first scene, Yosemite tries to keep his fire-breathing dragon from sneezing while both are huddled inside a castle’s explosives-filled powder room. By the second scene, we see that Yosemite has failed as both he and the dragon, while still inside the same powder room, nonetheless sail upward like a rocket.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Friz Freleng was an American animator, cartoonist, director, producer and composer known for his work at Warner Brothers on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester the cat, Yosemite Sam and Speedy Gonzalez. Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most honored of the Warner directors, having won five Academy Awards

ABOUT:
Tom Everhart is a celebrated American painter whose work uniquely bridges the worlds of fine art and popular culture through his exclusive use of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters. Initially trained at Yale School of Art and later mentored by Schulz himself, Everhart transitioned from traditional illustration and architectural rendering to a bold, expressive painting style after a life-altering battle with cancer in the late 1980s.
"The "Posing" series did grow out of the previous "Hide and Seek" series that focused on the questions of one's attempt to hide their intellectual honesty in order to seek out a newly designed image... a "Poser" tsunami of posturing between who was being real, and who was obviously pretending to be real, often with the intent to deceive, could no longer be ignored." - Tom Everhart
