PRODUCTION: Pinocchio
YEAR: 1940
IMAGE SIZE: 12.5" x 15.5"
SKU: CCV2751
ABOUT THE IMAGE: Geppetto is featured here in this spectacular studio-printed character model sheet used during the production of Walt Disney's 1940 animated feature masterpiece Pinocchio. The character appears in many different angles in several expressions and poses. Including some repeats, this image was printed on photographic paper by the Walt Disney studio in extremely limited quantities, and it is considered especially rare.
This piece shows signs of moderate production wear - Wrinkling and light creases along left margin; single tear in lower left corner. The note "OK J.G." has been reproduced along the right margin and was likely written by Joe Grant, a character designer and story director for the film.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Photostat Model Sheets are reference guides used by animators to ensure consistency in character design, proportions, and expressions throughout a film. These printed sheets typically feature multiple poses, facial expressions, and turnarounds of a character, often photocopied from finalized drawings by lead animators. Model sheets help maintain uniformity in animation by providing a standard reference for all artists working on a character, preventing visual discrepancies between different scenes.
