ABOUT THE IMAGE: This original hand-painted animation cel of the Cat in the Hat was created in the DePatie-Freleng Studio ink-and-paint department and photographed during the making of "The Grinch Grinches the Cat and the Hat," a television special written and co-produced by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geise).
On a "sunny, fuzzy, beezleberry day," the Cat settles in for a picnic but leaves his car in the road. The Grinch demands that he "get this crate out of my way." Standing at his picnic site, the Cat tells him with a smile: "I will de-blockerize and de-obstructervate this roadway." Studio designation "4002 59 13" is written along the bottom of the cel sheet to indicate this original's place in the film.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Original production cels are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that were used in the creation of an animated film or television show. Each has been hand-painted by studio artists on a piece of celluloid acetate, and has been photographed over a background painting to create a frame of the finished production.

ABOUT:
Tom Everhart is a celebrated American painter whose work uniquely bridges the worlds of fine art and popular culture through his exclusive use of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters. Initially trained at Yale School of Art and later mentored by Schulz himself, Everhart transitioned from traditional illustration and architectural rendering to a bold, expressive painting style after a life-altering battle with cancer in the late 1980s.
"The "Posing" series did grow out of the previous "Hide and Seek" series that focused on the questions of one's attempt to hide their intellectual honesty in order to seek out a newly designed image... a "Poser" tsunami of posturing between who was being real, and who was obviously pretending to be real, often with the intent to deceive, could no longer be ignored." - Tom Everhart
