1st Daffy Duck
MEDIUM: Original Production Model Sheet
PRODUCTION: Porky's Duck Hunt, 1937
IMAGE SIZE: 10.5" x 14"
SKU: CCV2604
ABOUT THE IMAGE: This original model sheet was made at the Warner Bros. Studio in 1936 or 1937 during the production of the first or second cartoon to feature Daffy Duck; his unforgettable first (unnamed) appearance came in Porky's Duck Hunt, the Looney Tunes starring Daffy directed by Fred "Tex" Avery released in Spring, 1937. In his second cartoon—Daffy Duck and Egghead—Daffy acquired his name; it was released in January 1938 and also directed by Tex Avery.
"1st" is written in red ink above the "Daffy Duck" title at bottom center and "Porky's Duck Hunt" below. "Drawn by Tex Avery 1936" is written in black ink at lower right, and this is Tex Avery's signature. The model sheet reproduces six (6) images of Daffy Duck and was issued to WB Studio animators to assist them in keeping Daffy's appearance and mannerisms consistent throughout the film.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: A model sheet is a group of character drawings illustrating different poses and expressions of a cartoon character. Because a number of artists worked on a single cartoon, these sheets were circulated to the animators to give a uniform look and feel to a character throughout a production.
