ABOUT THE IMAGE: There have always been two traits a cartoon lover can count on in a Robert Clampett Looney Tunes short; action and attitude. Though replicated in various manners, no one has completely captured the abject silliness, beautiful flow, and sudden explosiveness of a Clampett Looney Tunes cartoon. From 1935 to 1946, Clampett produced electrifying animation that prided itself on current-day themes which still resonate today. Yet while that was one theme, another remained in the creation of truly well-rounded characters within situations that could be produced in no other medium other than animation. His directional talents aside, Clampett was also very well versed with character development. While his version of Bugs Bunny is regarded as the zaniest and most complete of any of the directors, Clampett also achieved this level of character with Daffy Duck, creating him as a personality who clearly resembles his name.
This image is taken from “Draftee Daffy,” directed by Clampett in 1945. In it, Clampett finds Daffy as a draft dodger who will do anything to get out of fighting in the war, including blasting himself off on a rocket marked, “Use in case of induction only.”
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: After selection of an image from a Robert Clampett cartoon, noted director Darrell Van Citters recreates the animation from the original film. The background is digitally recreated from the original film. It is then reproduced as a fine art Giclée print. The master inking was made by Laurie Dindis, and silk-screened onto acetate along with the Clampett Studio Collection seal of authenticity. Each cel was expertly hand-painted on the reverse side in the classic animation style.
