ABOUT THE IMAGE: These rare preliminary storyboard prints were used during the production of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983). They depict an early visualization of the action sequence on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge. The drawings' varied sizes indicate that these storyboards were more of an elaborate "thumbnail" pass to lay out ideas and action. As a result, they were also never cut from the page and mounted on backing sheets like other VFX Storyboards from the film. The storyboard labeled "141" has a hand-written note in blue ink that reads, "SINGLE BOOM SWING."
The artist of these drawings, George Jenson, had a life-long career as a production illustrator, VFX director, and story artist. He received an Oscar nomination for "Best Visual Effects" on 2010: The Year We Make Contact, the sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
