ABOUT THE IMAGE: This rare preliminary storyboard print was used during the production of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983). It features an early visualization of the iconic speeder bike chase on Endor. The drawings' varied sizes indicate that these storyboards were more of an elaborate "thumbnail" sequence to lay out ideas and action. As a result, they were also never cut from the page and mounted on backing sheets like other VFX Storyboards from the film.

The artist of these drawings, Joe Johnston, worked on all three films of the original Star Wars trilogy and was most notably the art director for both The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983).
