ABOUT THE ARTIST: Mary Blair (1911–1978) was a visionary artist and designer whose bold use of color and modernist style profoundly shaped Disney’s mid-20th century animation and theme parks. After studying at the Chouinard Art Institute, she joined Disney in 1940 and gained recognition for her work on Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros. Blair’s distinctive concept art set the tone for classics like Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), and Peter Pan (1953).

Though her style was often adapted for traditional animation, her influence remains unmistakable. Blair returned to Disney in the 1960s to design the iconic “It’s a Small World” attraction, where her whimsical, geometric designs and vivid color palettes became legendary.

Blair’s concept paintings are highly collectible for their artistry and connection to beloved films. As one of the few women in a key creative role at Disney, she broke barriers and left a lasting legacy, inspiring generations of artists with her innovative and timeless style.
